How Does iDriveSafely Work with the Florida Drug and Alcohol 4-Hour TLSAE Course?

drivers license application form

Different states have different requirements for getting a driver's license. In the State of Florida, people who have never held a driver's license (or who no longer have an active license) are required to take a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse EducationFlorida Tlsae Drivers Ed (TLSAE) course before they can get a driving permit. While this requirement may be substituted by certain Driver Education Licensing Assistance Program (DELAP) offerings, the easiest way is to take the TLSAE course online.

🚨 Florida Is Changing the Rules in July 2025
The TLSAE course is being replaced by a new program called DETS (Drug and Alcohol Traffic Education) starting July 1, 2025. If you're under 18, you can take either TLSAE or DETS during the month of July — just complete one by July 31 to stay on track for your learner’s permit. 👉 Read the DETS update to stay aheadTrending Florida Dets Update Your Guide New Drivers Ed Requirement Defensive Driving.

Drug and Alcohol Course

The TLSAE course is a requirement for anyone obtaining a learner’s license or driver’s license in Florida. Every applicant must pass this Drug and Alcohol Course as a prerequisite for taking the state’s permit exam.

In some cases, the TLSAE may be combined with other offerings. If the driver is under the age of 18, the Drug and Alcohol Course may be combined with the Florida Licensing Office Permit Test Online. It includes road rules and road signs. This option is not available for drivers 18 years of age or older. Drivers 18 and older are required to take their permit tests in a Florida Licensing office.

Benefits of Taking Courses Online

Taking the Florida Drug and Alcohol Course online means that you can fit the class into your schedule, on your time. Why bother scheduling a classroom session, driving to that location, and sitting in a class when you could take the course from the comfort of your own home? Plus, if you take the TLSAE online, you can add in the permit test as long as you are under the age of 18 as long as you pick the right provider.
