How Your Online Drivers Ed Course Works
Our online Indiana drivers ed course is approved by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), so that teens who are at least 15 years old can work toward their Indiana drivers permit right from home–no classroom necessary! It includes 30 hours' worth of classroom time, but since it's 100% online and self-paced, you can take breaks and work in sessions until your entire course is done.
Broken down into 8 simple units, your course chapters focus on one single subject at a time, and use multiple-choice quizzes at the end to review what you just covered. Your final exam will be 50 multiple-choice questions, and you only need an 80% to pass. Best of all, you can retake the exam as many times as you need to get your passing score, so you are guaranteed to pass your drivers ed course!
What Will I Learn?
Through a combination of videos, graphics, animation, audio elements, and visual aids, you'll learn to be a safe and responsible driver from the comfort of your own home. The subject-based chapters include topics like:
- Night driving
- Driving in various weather
- Road signs and signals
- Defensive driving techniques
- Freeway driving
- Merging and lane changing
- Hazard prevention methods
How Long Will it Take to Get My Permit?
In a way, the length of the course will depend on you. Since you can log on and off anytime you like, the time you spend finishing can vary. But the state of Indiana does require at least 30 hours of instruction from a drivers ed course, so it will take you at least that long.
After you've gone through the material, you can take your in-course permit exam that will count towards your BMV application. Once you've enrolled in a behind-the-wheel course, you can head down to the office to submit your forms, pass the vision test, and receive your learners permit.
If you're very committed, you can get the whole process done in just a few days. But don't worry - you can take much longer than that if you'd prefer.
Pass Your BMV Exam, No Problem
There's no better way to ace your exam on the first try than by being extra prepared, so your course comes complete with a free 50-question practice test--take it as many times as you wish. Refresh the questions in different orders to mix it up, and score yourself to track your improvement. By the end, you'll be all set up to walk into the BMV and breeze through your Indiana permit test.
Your Rights as an Indiana Student Driver
The Indiana BMV takes driver education seriously, and because of that, they want all drivers ed and defensive driving students to know their rights and responsibilities. You can view the Bill of Rights and the Code of Responsibilities for Driver Education Students as a PDF.
