Taking Arizona Online Drivers Ed
While hopping behind the wheel is exciting, it can also be dangerous. If you’re not familiar with the rules of the road, or how to handle unexpected situations, you could risk an accident — or worse. Getting a thorough driver’s education is the first step for any new teen driver to prepare for success behind the wheel.
Arizona Drivers Permit Requirements
To combat the dangers of teenage driving, Arizona has adopted a graduated driver’s license program. This means teens over the age of 15 1/2 will start their path to the driver’s seat by passing a driving permit test along with a vision test. While teens are not required to take a driver’s education course before they take the test, it’s an excellent way to learn the rules of the road and prepare to successfully pass the permit test.
Once they’ve passed the test, they’ll have the opportunity to practice driving with a licensed adult over the age of 21.
Requirements for an Arizona Class G Drivers License
Teens over the age of 16 (but under 18) can apply for an Arizona class G driver’s license (graduated driver license), but there are a few requirements they must fulfill as well. First off, they must have held a driver’s permit for a minimum of 6 months. In addition, they must either submit proof that they have successfully completed an Arizona drivers education course, or they must submit proof that they have fulfilled the behind-the-wheel requirement. This includes 30 hours of supervised driving, with 10 of those hours occurring at night. A parent or guardian must certify that those hours were completed before the teen can apply for their driver’s license.
Advantages of Taking Arizona Online Drivers Ed
While Arizona law does not require the theory portion of driver safety instruction, there are valuable benefits to taking a drivers ed course. It is the easiest way to prepare for the written permit exam. Although you could flip through the drivers manual on your own, taking an online course, like the one offered by I Drive Safely, will allow you the opportunity to learn using multimedia teaching techniques that will help you retain the information. Remember, you only have three attempts to pass the written exam within 12 months of your application. If you fail three times, you'll be required to pay for another application.
Secondly, drivers ed will allow student drivers to become informed on a wide range of situations, some of which they hopefully will never encounter. They’ll learn how to handle sudden changes in driving conditions due to weather or traffic, how to deal with road rage, and statistics related to the dangers of distracted or impaired driving. All of this information will make them more cautious and better prepared for any driving scenario they might face.
