1. Is your course approved by the state of Texas?

Yes! Our defensive driving course has been approved by the Texas TDLR to satisfy state requirements for ticket dismissal.

2. I want to dismiss a ticket from my driving record, but I’m not sure if I’m eligible to take a defensive driving course. How do I find out?

Generally, you are eligible in the state of Texas if you:

• Hold a valid non-commercial drivers license
• Have been cited for a minor moving violation
• Have NOT completed a defensive driving course in the last 12 months
• Did NOT commit your infraction in a construction zone.

If you still are unclear as to whether you qualify for a ticket dismissal course, contact your court and request more information concerning your particular circumstances.

3. How often can I take a Texas defensive driving course?

You may take a defensive driving course once every 12 months.

1. How long will this course take?

The course is six hours, which is the shortest it can be and still meet the state requirements. You may work through the course all in one day, or spread it out over a longer period of time.

2. What types of things will I study?

The course is broken into eight chapters and covers the following topics:

• Highway safety
• Alcohol- and drug-impaired driving
• State traffic laws
• Driving emergencies
• Vehicle maintenance

3. What is the testing and grading policy? Do I have to take a final exam?

Each chapter contains a quiz that reviews important content from that chapter. There are 10 questions per quiz, and you must score a 70% or higher to move onto the next chapter. The quizzes will provide you with an excellent opportunity to master the course material. You will be provided with feedback on any incorrect answers, and you may retake your quizzes an unlimited amount of times. If you fail a quiz, you will be asked to retake the chapter’s lesson material before attempting the quiz again.

There is no final exam!

4. Is there any way I can fail the course?

No. You have unlimited retakes on your chapter quizzes, so if you fail to achieve a passing score on a chapter, you can take it again until you do.

5. Is there a calendar deadline to complete a Texas defensive driving course?

If you have a court-ordered requirement to take a defensive driving course, the judge may assign a deadline date by which you’ll need to complete the course. I Drive Safely provides 180 days to complete the course.
