How to Earn a Discount on Your Monthly Insurance Rates
- Enroll in and complete your New Jersey defensive driving course.
Your 5% insurance reduction is mandatory, so you don’t need to request permission from your insurance company. You may take this course once every 3 years to earn your reduction. - Submit your completion certificate to your insurance company.
I Drive Safely will send you a certificate of completion via the delivery method you have chosen, which you may then mail or bring into your insurance provider. - Renew your discount after 3 years.
You may extend your 5% discount by re-taking your course every 3 years.
How to Get Up to a 2-Point Reduction on Your Driving Record
- Enroll in and complete your New Jersey defensive driving course.
Because the 2-point reduction is voluntary, you do not need to request permission from a court or the New Jersey MVC to take a defensive driving course.- You may take this course once every 5 years to earn a point reduction.
- You must also have at least 2 points on your driving record in order to be eligible. These could be recent points you’ve incurred from a traffic violation.
- Submit your completion certificate to the New Jersey Motor Vehicles Commission (MVC).
I Drive Safely will send you a certificate of completion via the delivery method you have chosen, which you may then mail or bring to your local MVC office. - Check your driving record.
Give the MVC a few weeks to process your completion, and then pull a copy of your New Jersey driving record. Make sure that 2 points have been removed from your license, and that you’ve received credit for completing our New Jersey online defensive driving course.
