How to Take a Defensive Driving Course in Delaware
Our Delaware online defensive driving point credit course may allow you to earn or renew a 3-point credit on your Delaware driving record. If you’ve previously taken a defensive driving course for the state-mandated 10% insurance discount, you can renew that discount and raise it to 15%. To do either, you’ll need to follow the steps below:
How to Earn Your Credit on Your Driving Record or an Insurance Discount
1. Enroll in and complete the I Drive Safely Delaware insurance discount course and 3 point credit.
The course for insurance reduction is the same that you will take for your 3-point driving record credit. You may take this course once every 3 years.Per the DMV’s regulations, drivers may earn a 3-point credit to their driving record with the successful completion of a state-approved defensive driving course.If you’ve already completed a Delaware insurance discount course and you’re looking to extend your insurance discount, you may begin this course 180 days before your original insurance discount expires.
2. Submit your certificate of completion to your court, or to your insurance company if you’re looking to renew your discount.
I Drive Safely will send you a completion certificate once you finish your course, which you may then mail or bring in to your court. For DMV credit, your completions will be electronically reported to the state. You do not need to turn your certificate in to the court.When you submit your certificate of completion to your insurance provider, you’ll receive a 15% discount on your auto insurance rates. This discount will be good for an additional three years, after which you may take the course again.
3. Check your driving record to make sure you’ve received the 3-point credit.
