New Mexico Driver Improvement Course (Point Suspension)
This 8-hour course is approved in New Mexico to fulfill the driver improvement requirement mandated by the NM Traffic Safety Bureau if your driver's license was suspended through the point system.


Course Curriculum

What should you expect?

The New Mexico Driver Improvement course contains text, videos, and animations aimed at helping you become a better driver in a way that's interesting and interactive. You'll learn traditional driving safety information, but also New Mexico-specific rules and regulations like state speed limits and DUI laws. The course will take you about 6 hours to complete and contains 12 chapters, each outlining a different aspect of driving safety:
  • Driving is a privilege
  • Defensive driving strategies
  • Traffic signs, signals, and roadway markings
  • Safe driving practices
  • Turning and passing
  • Driving in the city
  • Driving on the freeway
  • Driving on the highway
  • Challenges of driving
  • Driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol
  • Sharing the road and driving responsibly
  • Vehicle safety and maintenance
Throughout the course, you will take short multiple-choice quizzes. You must pass each quiz with a score of 100 percent in order to proceed to the next chapter. You will be provided with feedback on any incorrect responses and be given the chance to answer again. The quizzes do not affect your final exam score.

You also must take and pass a final exam upon completion of the course. You must score 80 percent or higher on the final exam before your Certificate of Completion will be processed or mailed to you. If you score lower than 80 percent you must retake the final exam.

NOTE: This course is approved in New Mexico.
